Eminence GA10-SC59 - 20W 8ohm

The following is based on my experience with all tube (rectifier, power, pre-amp) amps (6V6s & 5881s), a 5-6ish watt 1x10" (8 ohm) and a 40-45ish watt 4x10 (2 ohm). If you own a fifty-nine tweed 410 reissue these are the speakers you want in it. Same if you're building a late nineteen fifties champion kit and want to put a 10" speaker in it. Good 10" alnico speakers are available in 25 - 35 watt range but this 20 watt unit is the creme de la creme. At lower volumes it has a smooth classic American clean tone across the sound spectrum with a touch warmer bottom end and a touch less reed in the mids. The highs are sweet but not too crisp than the higher wattage speaker range mentioned above which will give you an understated bottom end and more mids and highs than the 20W SC-59. As you turn up the volume the 20W SC-59 begins to really shine compared to the 25-35 watt units in the same amps & configuration. In a 3 tube low watt amp this speaker begins to compress comfortably right up to '11' where it performs best. Think 'Layla'... In a 410 at lower volumes the cleans are smoothly mid focused and have a very nice vocal-like quality. Not too flabby, not too tight at the low end. Just enough to let you know it's there if needed. The highs are sweetly understated, more musical, less pronounced. A great tweed vintage clean. As the volume goes up they do the same thing as the 1x10 but better. Smooth, very well balanced and warm trending towards a faint 'brown sound' tone. Think perfectly compressed tweed EVH. I would recommend these speakers to anyone wanting that unique late 1950s Fender tweed tone without the honk. They are worth the money.

I built a tweed Champ circuit with a 15 watt output transformer that runs either 6L6 or 6V6 ( at about 6 watts). I own a circa ‘64 which I tried (and it sounded good). I tried a Jensen P10R (?) which sounded more authentic “tweed”-like. However, when driven it sounded a little loose in the lower end and a little sputtery. I bought this speaker (based on how good the ‘64 sounds) and it was the cats ass. The cleans are very fender and the clarity and simplicity of the circuit really shines through allowing each guitar to have its unique voice. Touch sensitivity and overall detail is lovely. And best of all, the transition to tube distortion is so smooth... the “character” of this speaker seems to perfectly complement this circuit. It will not be removed-I love it. Note: this is only available in 8 ohms. I wish the 12” wasn’t so damn expensive ; I’d put one in my VOX.

I matched this speaker with a Fender Tweed Harvard Clone. The initial Warehouse Veteran 10 inch speaker was great at lower volumes with single coil pickups but could not really shine with humbuckers. This Alessandro speakers is much more versatile at all volumes with single coils or humbuckers. A keeper! BTW, item arrived quickly and properly packed by Next Gen. I will order again.
